The unofficial kickoff to summer is here! Let’s talk beach waves. We’re sure you wish you could spend your days lounging in LBI or the Hamptons but that may not be doable . We’re sharing our best tips to create effortless textured locks from home or wherever you are this summer (no beach required).
Prep with mousse
Prepping your hair correctly for this summer look is super important. The hair should not be too clean, as it needs to hold the undone wave. Start to build your hair with Bumble and Bumble Full Form Thickening Mousse. It’s firm, but not too sticky.
To avoid the appearance of greasiness, apply the product slightly away from the roots and comb it through so it distributes evenly. If your hair is fine, repeat the process to achieve more body.
Whether you rock long layers, a midi, a lob or even a bob, carefree and unstructured beach waves are easily achieved with Bumble and Bumble Thickening Dryspun Finish. Apply it from root to ends to dry hair, gently tousle, (not scrunch!), each section as you work it in. It will add lift, airy fullness, and texture that lasts.
Fake the beach
For the ultimate beach wave, sea salt spray is the perfect product to create that textured beachy look. You have two choices. They both add volume, texture and hold. The difference is in the finish. Bumble and Bumble Surf Infusion contains a splash of oil so you can achieve texture with added hydration. Perfect if you want a bit of sheen and softness. The cult classic Bumble and Bumble Surf Spray creates a true matte day at the beach texture. For a limited time surf spray is being offered in two different scents,
and Montauk (read more here).
Pro tip- When using salt spray, rough dry it into your hair so that you achieve ultimate texture. This takes on the feel of hair that has dried after being wet from the sea.
Beach wave style mirrors the laid back vibe of sun and sand. You want it to be a bit messy! Rough dry your hair with your fingers or airdry. Once dry, take random sections of hair and wrap around a curling iron holding for about 3-5 seconds to curl. Don’t twist your hair in the same direction for each section, as you want this look to be naturally wavy and not too uniform. Once all hair has been curled, take each section of hair at the end and shake it to open up the wave.
Sleep on it
One of the simplest ways to get beach-worthy curls is to twist your hair up into buns before you go to bed. Section damp hair into four tight buns, secure with hair pins to avoid kinks. Leave in overnight and then simply get up, unroll and you will have beautiful beachy waves with minimal effort.
Soften your curls
Instead of curling all the way to the ends of your hair, leave the ends straight for the natural, carefree look. Once hair is removed from the iron , gently pull each section downwards to soften the curl and repeat this step throughout the whole head.
Then, break up the waves and all the hair at the roots with your fingers, tipping your head upside down and to each side. If the hair is still feeling soft use a pinch of Bumble and Bumble Pret a Powder, a dry shampoo to add further oomph to the hair.
Use a flat iron
A curling iron can leave your waves too rounded and polished. Another option is to use your flat iron to create ‘S’ shaped waves. Take one-inch sections of hair, create an ‘S’ shape with it and tap the straightener over the shape to set it. Alternate this ‘S’ shape down until you reach the end of the hair. This creates a more natural looking, textured wave.
